Gurgaon Gears Up To Handle Increasing Traffic
Soon, traffic woes could be the thing of the past for those living in Gurgaon. Peak-hours congestions, narrow roads and multiple traffic bottlenecks have been some of the major issues for those who travelled to Gurgaon from Delhi or Faridabad. Commuting is expected to get easy with new road projects. While some of these are already operational, others will be soon be ready to serve you.
Hero Honda Flyover
When the monsoon struck Gurgaon in 2016, the worse was seen at the Hero Honda Chowk, where the traffic came to halt for over four hours. This year, the situation would be much better as the Hero Honda Flyover got operational recently. It is an eight-lane 1.6-km bridge that would facilitate smooth commuting between newly built sectors of Dwarka Expressway, Old Gurgaon and New Gurgaon. For traffic going towards Khandsa, the flyover will offer smooth ride as the U-turn at the Kherki Dhaula can be avoided. This would also decongest the Delhi Jaipur Expressway as the local traffic traveling to Sector 10 will take the flyover route.
Underpass at Vatika Chowk
As the Vatika Chowk is expected to be a severe traffic bottleneck once the Southern Peripheral Road becomes operational, the Haryana state government has proposed to build underpass to facilitate signal-free crossing at this important junction. The traffic coming from Delhi and going towards the National Highway-8 (NH-8) might face congestion at this point due to heavy vehicular movement plying to Sohna. This underpass would smoothen the ride for commuters who would be able to hit the NH-8 without facing any major bottleneck.
Flyover/underpass at Atul Kataria Chowk
One of the busiest inter-sections for the traffic plying towards Old Gurgaon from Delhi, the Atul Kataria Chowk is also sees severe congestion during peak hours. An underpass or a flyover at this section would cut travel time for those who are plying towards old Gurgaon.
Management Development Institute (MDI) Flyover
An underpass near Medanta Hospital and a flyover at the Maharana Pratap Chowk Flyover is going to be operational next month. While the flyover would be starting at the MDI gate and will be ending near Sector 17 gate, it will streamline heavy traffic from the local bus stand to Iffco Chowk on the MG Road. Moreover, it will also ensure smooth ride from the Atul Kataria Chowk to Signature Towers. The underpass will, on the other hand, help commuters coming from the Medanta side cross the expressway and go towards Delhi. It will emerge on the service lane — Jaipur to Delhi side— of the expressway.
Cloverleaf interchange on Southern Peripheral Road
The National Highways Authority of India will be building a cloverleaf junction between the NH-8 and the Dwarka Expressway. This is to tackle the heavy flow of traffic between Delhi and Gurgaon when the new route becomes operational. The junction will be integrated in a way that would connect the NH-8 with the SPR, and would allow traffic movement between the SPR and the Dwarka Expressway, skipping the NH-8.
