Union environment minister Anil Madha Dave told the Rajya Sabha that 90 per cent of developmental projects got environmental clearance last year as compared to nearly 54 per cent in 2014. The minister also said that Environment Impact Assessment Notification, 2006, under the Environment Protection Act, 1986, governs the process of grant of prior environmental clearance for activities mentioned in the schedule of the notification. The process of environmental clearance includes screening, scoping, public consultation and appraisal, he added.
To develop peripheral areas of Guwahati, the Assam government has decided to create Assam State Capital Region Development Authority. Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said views of the locals would also be taken before setting up the body. A proposal was also passed to clear a draft law to give a shape to the proposed Assam State Capital Region Development.
Budget hospitality chain Treebo Hotels plans to have 1,500 properties in 150 cities, constituting over 35,000 rooms by 2018. The hospitality brand, which became operational in June 2015, has 200 properties in 40 cities with over 5,200 rooms. The hospitality brand is looking to strengthen its footprint in the cities with existing presence and to foray into newer places like Northeast and Jammu & Kashmir.
To shore up confidence and promote social justice, China has issued guidelines on better protection for property rights. The country will provide equal, comprehensive and law-based protection to all kinds of property rights and encourage the participation of the public in the process, the guideline says. Lax enforcement of property laws and unclear land ownership regulations have been a problem in China for decades.
