#RealtyNewsRoundUp: Frame Policy To Curb Illegal Construction: SC To Centre

In the wake of the collapsing of several unsafe and unauthorised buildings across various Indian cities, the Supreme Court (SC) has asked the Centre to consider framing a policy to deal with this menace of illegal construction. Referring to the recent fire in a high-rise apartment in Mumbai, the SC Bench said people were allowed to live despite the builder not getting occupation certificate from the designated authority. It also cited collapse of several unauthorised buildings in Ghaziabad and Noida.

For those looking for affordable homes in the Maximum City Mumbai, the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (Mhada) has announced a scheme. Under the scheme, the Mhada will put up for sale over 1,000 low-cost homes in November. The authority will begin accepting applications for these houses from September while the draw for the lottery will be conducted in November.

The department of town and country (DTCP) of Haryana has issued an order directing builders and the discom to disconnect power and water supply to 157 houses in Gurgaon's DLF Phase III and Phase V. Of these homes, 70  are constructed on plots allocated for economically weaker sections (EWS), on which  additional floors have been constructed. The occupation certificates (OC), too, are likely to be cancelled for these owners.

The Centre has approved construction of nearly 1.12 lakh more affordable houses for urban poor in eight states under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna. Of this, Andra Pradesh will have the maximum number of units, 37,000. Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra follow next.
