A Parliamentary panel has asked the Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation (HUPA) to start a thorough investigation done on the alleged cases of fraud in its housing scheme Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) (Urban). Meanwhile, the committee also recommended higher allocation of budgetary funds for the ministry.

The Ministry of Union Urban Development will extend the newly framed Transit Oriented Development (TOD) policy to Pune city. Currently, the policy is being implemented cities including Ahmedabad, Delhi (Karkardooma), Naya Raipur, Nagpur and Navi Mumbai. Under TOD, city densification will be promoted along mass transit corridors through vertical construction by substantially enhancing floor area ratio (FAR).

The Cabinet has approved four legislations required to implement the Goods and Services Tax (GST), paving way for them to be introduced in Parliament this week. The government hopes to complete the legislative work for one of the biggest reforms of the indirect tax regime in the ongoing budget session for it to roll out from July 1.

The Andhra Pradesh state government has increased the budgetary grant for 'Housing for All' scheme to Rs 1,450 crore this year with a view to kickstart construction. Work on 2.5 lakh houses in the rural areas and another 1.1 lakh houses in the urban areas will be taken up simultaneously.
