Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the much-awaited Hyderabad Metro Rail on Tuesday. The 30 kilometre-long first phase of the Metro rail project between Miyapur and Nagole was launched by the prime minister at the Miyapur station. Under the project, sky-walks will be built to connect stations to commercial complexes, stadiums and offices.

Air quality in Delhi, which remained 'very poor' for the fourth straight day on November 27, is set to deteriorate further, leading to the Delhi government advising people to stay indoors as much as possible. High moisture content and lack of winds had triggered the spike, the city government said. Meanwhile, the Centre said it would take "harsh measures", if needed, to prevent any repeat of the recent smog episode.

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed all states and Union territories to submit a Coastal Zone Management Plan (CZMP) to the Ministry of Environment and Forests before April 30 next year. An NGT Bench, headed by Chairperson Justice Swatanter Kumar, said any failure to submit a plan would attract an “exemplary” penalty of Rs 5 lakh, which should be recovered from the salary of the officers concerned.

Encroachment on public property in the name of doing charity was not permissible, the Delhi High Court said on November 27, while expressing its displeasure over unauthorised construction in a graveyard in the national capital. The HC rejected the claim of a person, accused of carrying out unauthorised construction on a waqf property, that an orphanage was being run in the premises, housing over 70 children, and that no commercial activity was going on there.
