India retained its position as the world's top recipient of remittances with its diaspora sending a whopping $79 billion back home in 2018, the World Bank said in a report released on April 8. India was followed by China ($67 billion), Mexico ($36 billion), the Philippines ($34 billion) and Egypt ($29 billion), the global lender said.

The Allahabad High Court has rejected a plea moved by some farmers whose land is set to be acquired for the Jewar International Airport. These farmers had moved court seeking three times the compensation that is being offered by the government.

Homebuyers across seven key markets of the country are waiting for about 5.6 lakh delayed housing units worth Rs 451,750 crore, says a report by a real estate consultant. Apart from bothering buyers, these delays are also adding to the funding woes of India’s real estate developers, the report indicates.

Citing environmental issues, the Madras High Court on April 8 quashed the notification the Tamil Nadu government issued to acquire land for the Chennai-Salem corridor. The project would have an adverse impact on environment and water bodies, the court said.
