#RealtyNewsRoundUp: Jewar Airport Gets Civil Aviation Ministry Nod
With the Union Civil Aviation Ministry giving an in-principle approval on April 23, the Uttar Pradesh government’s long-nurtured dream of being the home get the national capital region’s second airport has inched towards turning into a reality. The approval by the ministry for an airport in Jewar along the 165-kilometre Yamuna Expressway has come 16 years after the state government mooted the plan. The second airport in the region will cater to about 30 to 50 million passengers every year over the next 10-15 years. The Centre wants to connect the Jewar Airport with Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport though a direct Metro link. The airport will have additional Metro connectivity with the Greater Noida Metro Line. Plans are also is the making to connect the airport with Sarai Kale Khan though a rapid rail transit system.

India retained the top position as recipient of remittances with its diaspora sending about $69 billion back home in 2017, the World Bank said. Remittances to India picked up sharply by 9.9 per cent, reversing the previous year's dip, but were still short of $70.4 billion received in 2014. In its latest Migration and Development Brief, the World Bank estimated that officially recorded remittances to low-and middle-income countries reached $466 billion in 2017.

Real estate developers who have not been able to deliver their residential projects in Ghaziabad are stating at touch action. On April 23, Uttar Pradesh Urban Development Minister Suresh Khanna said that legal action would be taken against builders who had failed to deliver while stating that the state government was committed to guard the interest of homebuyers. Khanna is part of a three-member team that was appointed by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath last year to resolve the issues of homebuyers in the twin cities of Noida and Ghaziabad.

The Diu smart city has become the first city in India that runs on 100 per cent renewable energy during the daytime, setting a benchmark for other cities to follow. Diu had been importing 73 per cent of its power from Gujarat till last year, an official release said. The city has developed a nine-megawatt solar park spread over 50 hectare rocky barren land, besides installing solar panels on the rooftops on 79 government buildings, generating 1.3 MW annually. Diu also offers its residents a subsidy of Rs 10, 000-50,000 for installing 1-5 -KW rooftop solar panels.
