The Reserve Bank of India has cautioned banks against retail loans as the latest data has indicated around 20 per cent increase in personal loans. These include housing and vehicle loans. The RBI has said there appears to be a herd movement among bankers to grow retail credit and the personal loan segment in view of the problem-riddled corporate loan book. According to RBI’s financial stability report, the gross non-performing advances ratio for housing finance assets remained flat at 1.55 per cent in September 2017.

According to a Realty Decoded, a quarterly report by PropTiger DataLabs that sums up how nine key real estate markets of India are performing, home sales number in the first quarter (Q1) of the calendar year (CY) 2018 increased 33 per cent year-on-year. When compared to the March quarter of last year, new project launches in the nine cities, however, fell 60 per cent.

The government has finalised an Rs 637-crore National Clean Air Programme to improve the air quality in India. The 20-point programme shifts the onus of fighting air pollution to states, emphasises on the collection of authentic data on pollution sources, introduces monitoring of rural air pollution and a new institutional framework at the Central and state levels to monitor air quality and take preventive steps. The policy requires all the states to frame their own clean air programmes.

The South Delhi Municipal Corporation on April 18 removed three farmhouses, 26 pukka and kachha houses, 25 jhuggis, several godowns and parking sheds in another major anti-encroachment drive. All the illegal constructions spread over 14 acres in the Fatehpur Beri village were on government land.
Meanwhile, the Centre has told the Supreme Court that the special task force (STF), which would be set up to oversee the enforcement of laws to deal with unauthorised constructions and encroachments in Delhi, would also look into the safety aspects of buildings which have been built legally.
