The Supreme Court on January 23 refused to grant bail to Unitech promoters Sanjay Chandra and Ajay Chandra in a case relating to the alleged siphoning off the homebuyers' money. The court said the Chandras had yet to comply with its October-2017 order, in which the SC asked them to deposit Rs 750 crore with the apex court registry by December that year.

The Centre on January 23 approved the extension of the Delhi Metro corridor from Dilshad Gardern to New Bus Adda in Ghaziabad which will provide a much-needed additional public transport infrastructure to the region. The Cabinet has also approved contribution of about Rs 325 crore as Central financial assistance for the project that will be built at a total cost of Rs 1,781 crore.

The Maharashtra government will reserve 50 per cent residences for members of the Mantralaya Aani Vidhimandal Vartahar Sangh in Mumbai under a housing scheme of the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA). Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on January 23 said the location for the project had been finalised, and process for the sale of flats might start within a month.

Bengaluru's increasing dependence on private transportation may increase the air pollution by 74 per cent by 2030, a study by Urbanemissions.info along with researchers from the Center for Study of Science, Technology and Policy (CSTEP) says. This increase in PM10 levels (particulate matter of less than 10 microns) would be largely driven by vehicle exhaust, construction dust and on-road dust.
