Tips for a Hassle-Free Move

Moving to a new house is an ecstatic feeling. However, when you finally start moving all your belongings, that's where the process can become tiring. It's important to plan well and in advance to move your world from one house to another. Here is what you need to include in your checklist while shifting to a new house:

Update Your Address You wouldn't like to miss your important mails or lag behind on your bills. So, before you shift to your new home make sure that you have updated your new address at the post office. You also need to update it on all your ID cards and other important documents such as your voter's ID, driving license, insurance policy, etc.

Don't Forget Your Utilities Nothing is more nightmarish than reaching your new home and finding it all dark with no electricity. So, you need to search for the new providers or transfer your utilities beforehand such as cooking gas connection, electricity, telephone, cable TV and internet connection. Newspaper and magazines subscriptions should also be transferred well in time.

Take Care of Actual Assets The most valuable assets are your documents as they are under the highest risk of getting lost in all the moving and packing. So, it's important to store all your important documents safely before making the final move to the new place. These documents include papers regarding your ownership, tax calculations, etc. You may also need to save some of the receipts that are meant for further consideration. Warranty cards for appliances should also be kept safely.

One Final Look Take a final tour of your new home before shifting to check for minor faults in the house. There may be some open-wire sockets, paint blotches, a little chipped paint on the wall, etc. These faults need to be urgently taken care of before you finally move in. You should know where the circuit breakers and water valves are located and also how to operate them.

Safety Features Check for a valid and secure safety system in your house or get it installed in case it's not already there. If you already have such a system in place, be sure that it's up to the mark and in good working condition. Also, don't forget to change all the old locks as the builder or the previous owner of the house may have duplicate keys.

Know Your Neighbourhood Do get acquainted with your immediate neighbours and also gather information about nearby hospitals, schools and shopping centers. You could also throw a little housewarming party and invite few neighbours over to get to know them well.
