While most of us depend on heating appliances and other sources of heat to deal with the chilling winter wave, we often overlook the amount of energy we waste in doing so, not to mention the whopping electricity bills that come along with it. You will be surprised to know that using a few simple winter tips, we can keep our households warmer and much more comfortable to live in during wintertime.
So here we are, with a list of some important winter tips which will help you keep your house warm:
Don’t leave any gaps: The most basic step towards keeping your house warm during winters is by ensuring that there remains no inlet for cold air to enter the home. Some of the areas which need to be checked for this include creeks along windows and ventilators and gaps between doors.
Welcome the sun: A good way to heat your home in a natural manner is by allowing ample amount of sunlight to enter the home during daytime, which will help keep your house warm during the night. You can also put your bedding out in the sun during warm and sunny days to prepare a cosy bed for night-time.

Drape the walls: As a lot of warmth can escape through the walls, it is best to keep them covered with curtains or other draperies, wherever possible. An excellent way to avoid seepage of heat through the walls is to use curtains which are made of materials like vinyl, tweed and flannel, which are heavy and prevent heat from passing through.

Adorn the floor: Similar to the walls, the floor also needs to be carpeted to keep your house warm. If you do not wish to carpet your home permanently, a few rugs in the bedroom and living room will also do the trick, and these can easily be removed later.

Watch the exhaust: In order to further avoid dissipation of heat from within the house, ensure that exhaust fans and chimneys are shut when not in use.
Insulate the pipes: What’s more, you can even boost the efficiency of your water heaters while at the same time lowering your bills by insulating any pipes that are out in the open so that the heat cannot escape from them.
