The Centre has approved construction of nearly 1.12 lakh more affordable houses for urban poor in eight states under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, with Andra Pradesh bagging the largest share of over 37,000 housing units, followed by Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra.

The Maharashtra government has decided to lift the curb on the permissible built-up area on slum plot. Currently, a builder redeveloping a slum cluster in Mumbai is permitted to construct up to three times the plot size. The state government will now withdraw the upper cap on the floor space index (FSI) permissible for a slum plot.

The National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) has asked real estate giant Unitech to pay within six weeks an amount of Rs 58 lakh along with a compensation of simple interest at the rate of 10 per cent per annum to a homebuyer after the company failed to hand over an apartment within the stipulated time.

The director of builder firm Premia Projects in Noida has been booked for allegedly cheating buyers under the Indian Penal Code sections 420 (cheating) and 406 (criminal breach of trust). It was in 2017 when a police complaint against the builder was filed for cheating and committing fraud against nearly 3,000 homebuyers.
