The government approved construction of 90,095 more affordable houses for urban poor under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) with an investment of Rs 5,590 crore in three states. The central assistance for the same would be Rs 1,188 crore.
Union minister for housing Venkaiah Naidu said not a single proposal has come from private builders under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) and urged developers to rise to the occasion and take up affordable housing in a big way.
Gujarat government has allocated Rs 597 cr under the Smart City Mission for Ahmedabad, Surat and Vadodara. Almost Rs 60 crore has been alloted for a subordinate loan for the Metro project in Ahmedabad. Apart from flyovers, cities have got allocations to improve connectivity.
A report submitted by NGT states that as many as 14 high-rise buildings and other constructions in the city were built by encroaching upon Yamuna floodplains. According to the report, 28 establishments along the river were inspected and 14 of them were found to be encroaching upon the eco-sensitive zone.
India's largest realty firm DLF Ltd will invest about Rs 3,500 crore this year to complete construction of almost all of its existing housing projects, a senior company official said. DLF has 18.5 million square feet area under construction in various housing projects, and it is targeting to complete about 15-16 million sq ft by end of this year.
