Kelambakkam is a fast growing suburb of Chennai located along the Old Road, also known as the IT corridor. Airport is located at a distance of about 30 kilometres from Kelambakkam and is adjacent to the suburbs of Velachery, Selaiyur, Madipakkam, Sholinganallur and Thiruporur. The city government has sanctioned the second phase of the widening of OMR into six lanes from Kelambakkam to Mahabalipuram. The 18-kilometre long -Kelambakkam road connects OMR and GST and other places in and around Chennai. This stretch is about 24 kilometres from the airport, 46 kilometres from Central and 44 kilometres from Station.
Kelambakkam easily accessible through the State Highway 121 and Kelambakkam-Kovalam Road and frequent buses ply from Kelambakkam to Saidapet, Central, Broadway and T. Nagar Bus Stations. Railway Station is about 36 kilometres from Kelambakkam.
A 4.67 kilometre by-pass has also been planned here, starting from Padur to Thaiyur-B village, by-passing Kelambakkam. To reduce travel time from Madhya Kailash to Kelambakkam, Government has proposed an elevated expressway that extends from Madhya Kailash to Mahabalipuram. An upcoming railway line from Chennai to Pondicherry will also have a station at Kelambakkam.
