The popular Yamuna Expressway (YEA) is 165 kilometres long controlled-access expressway which connects Greater Noida with Agra in Uttar Pradesh. It is a 6-lane expressway, extendable to 8 lanes and is the longest such controlled-access expressway in the country. It has been developed to accommodate 5 LFDs (Land of concessionaire) with facilities of 4 toll plazas and 6 interchanges along the entire length. The project, which is worth 128.39 billion (US$1.9 billion), was proposed by former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Mayawati. The construction began in December 2007 while the inauguration happened in August 2012 by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav. The expressway begins at Greater Noida and ends at Kuberpur on NH 2 towards Kanpur and Agra. Commuters can easily access the expressway using 13 service roads. The expressway exists in three phases namely Phase I, Phase II and Phase IV. Phase IV stretches between intermediate destination and Agra. The government is planning to extend the YEA to Lucknow under its new project on 285-km Agra Lucknow Expressway.
